SureSmile® in the New York Times!

At Zammitti Orthodontics, we're always interested in learning about the latest innovative orthodontic technologies. That's why we wanted to share with you, our amazing patients, a very interesting New York Times article that discusses the benefits of 3-D imaging technology. Dr. Zammitti and our office use 3-D imaging technology through the SureSmile® treatment. SureSmile technology is revolutionizing the orthodontics because it orchestrates clearer patient diagnosis, allows doctors to specifically tailor appliances to a patient's individual needs, and it gives the patient the ability to see exactly what their mouth will look like post-treatment. The treatment is estimated to be almost 40% faster than conventional braces. This allows for overall fewer office visits, less discomfort, and higher quality results.

For more information on SureSmile technology, check out our website or give our office a call! Dr. Zammitti is a certified SureSmile provider and would be happy to meet with you to discuss treatment options.

Hi, Moms! Have you signed the Moms for Mouth Guards Pledge?

At Zammitti Orthodontics, we care about your beautiful smile, and we want to help protect you from sports injuries that can be detrimental to your pearly whites. The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) has introduced the Moms for Mouth Guards Pledge as a way of helping make sure that children are using proper facial protection equipment.

Mouth guards are vital to protecting your teeth from sports related injuries while participating in sports, such as football, soccer, baseball, hockey, and basketball, to name a few. The Moms for Mouth Guards Pledge is a way for mothers nationwide to make a commitment to protecting their child's smile from facial injuries.

In past entries, we’ve discussed the importance of using facial protection when exercising to prevent injury. Today, we at Zammitti Orthodontics we are inviting moms to take action by visiting the Moms for Mouth Guards website and taking the Moms for Mouth Guards Pledge.

Have a safe week everyone!

Zammitti Orthodontics, reminding you June is National Smile Month!

We're halfway into June, but it's never too late for us at Charlotte's Zammitti Orthodontics to remind our patients that June is National Smile Month. Today, our team thought, would be an ideal time to remind our patients to practice good oral hygiene between your visits to our office.

Make sure you...

* Brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. This helpful video shows you how to brush with your braces on.
* Floss every day to thoroughly clean between your teeth.
* Reduce your intake of sugary foods and drinks during your treatment.
* Visit your dentist regularly (usually every six months apart).

On the Mecklenburg and Cabarrus county line. Serving Charlotte, along with surrounding areas of Concord, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and Kannapolis – Dr. Sal Zammitti is your orthodontic specialist, offering SureSmile, Invisalign and invisible braces for children, teens and adults.

If you have questions about any of these tips, we encourage you to give us a call at 704.947.9991 at our convenient Concord location!

Ask Dr. Zammitti: Is oral piercing worth it?

Dr. Sal Zammitti and team know that piercing, like tattooing, is one of today’s popular forms of “body art” and self-expression. If you’re thinking about getting a piercing – or if you already have one or more – there are some health risks you should know about.

Your mouth contains millions of bacteria, and infection is a common complication of oral piercing. Just touching your mouth jewelry (tongue barbells and lip and cheek labrettes) can lead to infection. Many people who have piercings tend to regularly touch them – which is a perfect opportunity for bacteria from hands to enter piercing sites. Also, food particles that collect around piercing sites can lead to infection.

Pain and swelling are other possible side effects of piercing. Your tongue – the most popular piercing site in the mouth – could swell large enough to close off your airway! Piercing also can cause uncontrollable bleeding or nerve damage. Damage to the tongue’s blood vessels can cause serious blood loss.

At Zammitti Orthodontics, we want you to consider the potential pitfalls of piercing carefully before getting one. Keep in mind that it will be an added responsibility to your life, and will need regular upkeep. Make sure that you’re committed to the task of taking care of it for the full healing period and beyond.

If you have an oral piercing, we want you to pay special attention to it. Clean the piercing with antiseptic mouthwash after eating, and brush the jewelry when you brush your teeth. Of course, give us a call at 704.947.9991 if you have any questions.

Tell Dr. Zammitti and team: What should we blog about this summer?

As the summer rapidly approaches, our staff at Zammitti Orthodontics strive to continue writing about important topics related to braces and your treatment at our office.

To help us continue doing that through the course of the summer, however, we'd love your help: We thought we’d step back a bit today and ask you, our loyal readers: What would you like us to focus on our blog in the coming months? Perhaps there’s something you’ve wanted to ask Dr. Zammitti for a while? We're taking suggestions! Let us know by posting here or on our Facebook fan page!

Have a terrific weekend!
